KonMari Declutter and Cleanup for Your Pets
Spring cleaning has taken on a whole new level.
Chances are, you’ve heard of the KonMari cleaning method. It’s taken the world by storm, a process of decluttering and home organization techniques by Japanese powerhouse Marie Kondo.
How did her way of tidying become popular? Well, Netflix. Her eight-episode premiere season has sparked a global phenomenon (the show is based on her best-selling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up). Local donation centres are seeing a rise in goods and people are proclaiming more simpler, happier lives with less items.
So, what about incorporating the KonMari way of living for pets?
Many fur parents can relate to this battle: toys sprawled all over the house, inadvertently stepping on a not-so-cushiony chewer and living with doggy jackets and shirts your pup has long outgrown.
Here are some simple steps to help you streamline your life, the KonMari way!
1. Take out all the pet-related toys and clothes and place them in their own pile. By doing so, you get to see your collection in its entirety.
2. Hold each toy or clothing in your hands and ask yourself, “Does this spark joy for my pet?” If you’re feeling overwhelmed, pick up a toy or piece of clothing you know your pet absolutely loves. It’s a great starting point to choose items this way.
3. If no, thank the item for its use and purpose, wash, and see if you can donate to a local animal shelter or thrift store.
4. Having trouble letting go but know your pet doesn’t need or play with an item anymore? Take a photo! That way, you will always have a visual memory.
And like any popular trend, there’s a hashtag. Search #KonMariPets and get inspired! Here are some of our favourites:
