How to Walk Without Pulling
It’s every dog owner’s dream to walk their dog without them pulling. We also recognize it’s one of the most common problems a dog owner can come across. How do you get your dog to walk by your side with a loose leash?
The Start/Stop method is the most effective way to stop your dog from pulling. It’s very self-explanatory, but here’s the play by play!
Every time your dog pulls your leash and the leash gets taut, come to a complete stop. You’ll immediately notice your dog’s confusion with a look of “Why aren’t we walking anymore?” Once the leash gets some slack and your dog is relaxed continue walking again.
Slowly but surely your dog will realize a taut leash means their walk will stop. You’re looking at around 20+ rounds of this *phew* BUT you will notice your dog getting relaxed the second the leash gets taut. This is when you IMMEDIATELY praise and treat your dog. Without positive acknowledgement they will lose the connection of why a tight leash means their walk ends.
Don’t give up on this protocol! It takes time and patience but your dog will understand in no time.
